cat fish spots

Question
I have a well-established freshwater tank with two cat fish (2-3" long) that are several years old.  One suffered from fin rot a few months back, but survived and seems to be doing very well now.  Recently, both cats have gotten large white spots above their eyes that turn into stripes down their sides.  They also seem to be eating more than their fair share and growing rapidly.  At first, I wondered if it was ich, but the spots are way too big.  None of the other fish in the tank seem to be affected, but I'm afraid to introduce any new fish.  I did some internet research, but came up with nothing.  Any ideas?

Answer
A picture would probably help considerably in diagnosing this... any chance you would be able to upload one to photobucket or something so I could see it? There are just so many issues that involve white spots? Fin rot is almost always caused by poor water quality, that could have also caused the issue you are seeing now. What are your water parameters? The first thing I always recommend at the first sign of trouble is a good thorough cleaning...
