female betta tank

Question
I just upgraded my female betta tank from a 3 gallon to a 5 so I could fit a filter in and add some sort of bottom feeder. I had a Chinese algae eater before, but I think he got too sassy and my girls ganged up on him and now he literally sleeps with the fishes. I wanted to get either a dojo or a rubber lipped algae eater. In your opinion, what sort of bottom feeder would fit in the best? I have 3 females, they get along great. Also, do you think getting a 4th betta would be too much for the tank, or upset the balance?

Answer
Leigh,
The rubber lip has always been my favorite algae eater. Unfortunately, its the girls who have to get along with him. Some times they work and sometimes they don't but I think it will be fine. I would not add any more Betta's to the tank because 5 gallons is too small. You should really have at least 15 gallons for the 3 females. If you add another, there will be some fighting going on and that is never a good thing. Even if you have a filter, you will still have to do weekly water changes of at least 25%. Hope this has helped, and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
