Question
QUESTION: okay, I have three golden chinese loaches, six ling-finned black skirted tetras, six ghost shrimp, and a male molly in a ten gallon tank.  Is this overpopulated? I kinda regret getting thetetras, because they don't have much color, which is why I got the molly. now I have four colorful fish, which is not much to look at. would it be advisable to buy a female, or even another male to give the molly company?
ANSWER: First, I really need to know what size tank you have.  Another issue is if the "golden chineese loaches" are in fact chineese algae eaters you have a big problem.  These fish become agressive and will eat other fish. They also get to be about 7-10" long.  Here is a profile of the fish I believe that you have.

if this is the case, I would suggest rehoming them asap as they get huge and agressive.  They will also most likely eat your shrimp.  The long-finned black skirt tetras are a rather pretty fish, although they can be quite nippy if in too small a group.  No long finned fish with these guys!  Molly fish are considered brackish and do best in an aquarium that is lightly salted with marine salt.  I would rehome the algae eaters and the molly and possibly get some otocinclus catfish for the algea problems and depending on the tank, maybe another school of colorful tetras or rasboras.  Or if you like the livebearer look, you could try platys. Please let me know the size of tank you have so I can further assit you with stocking.

QUESTION: Sorry, I thought I said that it is a 10 gallon tank. and I got the name mixed up. it's a gold dojo loach like this http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=2099. does this help?

Answer
This tank stocking list is going to cause you a lot of problems in the future.  The dojos get 6-8", the black skirts are agressive and get 2-2.5", the shrimp are ok..and the molly is lonely and needs salt.  What I would do is return most of the fish and get a school (6) of small tetras (neon, cardinal, green fire, rummynose, etc) or a small school of rasboras (harlequin) or a handful of male guppies.  The fish you have in your tank get to big and there are too many for a 10 gallon.  Right now, my 10 gallon has 2 male guppies and 3 female, and I wouldn't add any others.
