Question
I curently have three male bettas and they are each in one gallon bowls, but I wish to give them more room.  I have purchased a 1o gallon tank, two dividers, a filter for ten gallons, a heater for ten gallons, new gravel, new artificial plants, and I am going to divide the tank into three compartments.  The dividers have tiny holes all through them so the water can flow but the fish can't get through of course.  My question is, do I need more than one heater and filter or should the ones I got do fine?  If so, where should I place the heater and filter in this three way divided tank?  Thank you for your time and expertise!

Answer
Lindsie,

One of each will work just fine. I have 20 gallon separated tanks with one heater and 2 filters. Remember, the filter you have needs to not have a strong current because the Betta's don't like them. In a 10 gallon you really don't need one. With or without the filter you will still have to so 25% weekly water changes. Put the Heater in the middle section, so you will want to make that one a little bigger than the other 2. Keep a good watch on them. If the partitions are not secured to the tank they can and will try to move it to get to each other. In my tanks all the separations are permanently attached to the tank so that won't happen. You can put the filter in either corner. Good luck with the tank.
