Question
Hi, My friend had her mare covered about 3 weeks ago, but has been told today that she NEEDS to move her mare from the yard she is currently on.
The person who told her this said that she was risking her mare reabsorbing the foal (IF she's pregnant) because there are geldings on the same yard & that being in the presence of geldings would cause her to reabsorb!
NO-ONE we know has ever hear anything like this before, nor can we find anything on the net to back it up.
Have you any idea if there's any truth in this?
Thank you :-)

Answer
Hi Y'Vette,

This is definitely NOT true.  The only thing I can think of that this person would be referring to, is if one of the geldings tries mounting her, but even then, this should not cause her to absorb the fetus.

Plenty of pregnant mares run with geldings in pasture and there has never been a problem with holding a pregnancy.

Thanks for your question,
Sandy
