Dark Bay vs. Fading Black

Question

Ace of Spades
Since you specialize in breeding Arabians, I figure you'd be specialized in coat colors.  I've been having a debate with someone over the color of this horse (see attached pic).  This is his summer coat after being turned out all summer long with exception of a few hours a day in the barn to be ridden, groomed and fed.  In the winter he appears black.
I do not know his parentage as he was purchased from a kill pen as an emaciated 2 yr. old, but I thought what qualifies as dark bay vs. fading black was true black points which this horse has.  Of course I also come from a racetrack background where there is no such thing (according to the Jockey Club) as a black Thoroughbred so I tend to see coat colors in dark bay/brown and not black.
So I say dark bay, the other person says black and I don't mind being wrong in order to learn something new.  (Excuse the ugly picture of him chewing grain, but it showed his summer coat best.)
Thanks for your time.

Answer
We call them Black Bays. It is difficult to tell for sure on this one. My black horses tend to turn a reddish brown when they have sun fade in summer. If they have a black dorsal stripe when faded, they are generally black. It doesn't matter a lot in the Arab world without parentage and papers. You should be commended for rescuing such a wonderful animal. I am leaning towards Black Bay on this onem but again, it is difficult to say for sure.
