QuestionHello I would like to breed my mare for a April baby. I noticed that she was in heat over the weekend (march 4/5) she was showing typical estrous signs to my gelding (who wanted her to leave him alone). When should I be looking for her next heat cycle, how long will she stay in heat, and when do you think I should be looking to breed (on a calender) thanks soo much!
AnswerHi Sony,
A mares average gestation is 340 days, so she should be bred mid May. Most mares cycle every 21 to 23 days and remain in heat from 4-8 days. She should come back into heat around the 28th of the month.
I hope this helps.
