I just purchased an * yr. old paint mare. I need to know how often she  comes into heat and how I can tell for sure, besides her attitude?

Hi,
    In the Summer months a mare's Ovulation happens anywhere from 21-23 days, in the Winter many mares shut down the heat cycle. The cycle itself will last 3-7 days, Some of the signs that you will see include but are not limited to, winking which is when the mar's vulva contracts and relaxes, she may urinate more frequently, she may also back up to a stallion with her tail raised. There are some mares who do not show any signs unless they are near a stallion.
