foaling list

hello i was also wondering if you could give me a list of everything that is absolutly neccesary to have when my mare foals.

Hi Isaac,
Here are the things I always have with me when my mare foals.

A good flashlight with fresh batteries.(Even in a well lit barn, it can be hard to see exactly what is going on.)
A lot of clean towels.
Rubber gloves.
Novalsan or Betadine for the foal's umbilical stump.
My cell phone with the vet's number and emergency number programmed in.
The cell phone also comes in handy for the clock.  You want to check the time for each stage of labor.  When you're in the middle of foaling, it always seems like things are taking longer than they actually are.
You also want to make sure you have plenty of fresh straw (NOT shavings) for bedding once the foal is born.  When the mare's water breaks, it makes a real mess, so you want to wait to put your bedding down after she foals, or else you'll just be cleaning it out right after the foal is born anyway.

Honestly, those are the only things I definitely have with me when I head to the barn when my mares go into labor.
