Answer
Hi Carol,

Thanks for the great pictures.

Her udder definitely looks like one that would be consistent with a mare who is pregnant and just starting to fill.

Her body though tells a different story.  Her profile does not look consistent at all with a mare that is late in pregnancy.  She just is not nearly full enough in the flank area.  Even a mare that is carrying a small foal will not have an indentation at all in the flanks like she shows.  She just shows too much definition in her belly to be late into a pregnancy.

From the front view, she does look somewhat larger on one side than the other, but that could be just the angle she is standing.  But even from a front view, her belly just isn't sticking out far enough to be late into a pregnancy, especially on a mare that is carrying at least her 4th foal.

I'm not seeing the softening/sagging of the ligaments around the tail head that is normal either.  The change you have noticed in her butt muscles and vulva could be due to the fact that she has put on weight.  A mare's vulva usually doesn't change much until just a few days prior to foaling and at that time, it just looks a little swollen and soft.

If this mare is late into a pregnancy, I would be very surprised... but stranger things have happened!
