Question
at what age will a young stud attempt to breed, and at what age will he be successfull at breeding

Answer
A male horse or pony is capable of reproducing and producing offspring as early as 8 months of age.  This is not something desirable as the young animal is too young and could injure himself in the breeding procedure.  Bones, joints, etc are not mature enough for that much strain.
I hope this information will be of help to you.  Personally, I have found it better to train a stallion under saddle or to drive before teaching them about the breeding shed.
