1/2 Arab gelding trying to mate

Question
Hi. I've rescued a 14 yr. old 1/2 Arab Gelding and he is trying to climb over his corral to the neighboring mare to mate! Aggghhh! I've only had him 2 weeks. I just found out via searching for his pedigree that he was gelded approx. 6-7months ago...great...now what? Will this (and his abundance of energy) soon cease? Help! the boarding stable owner is running out of patience with him.Should I try to sell him to a more experienced person? He's so far not exhibited any aggressiveness towards me while I'm with him. Thank You!

Answer
The first thing you can do is get some vicks vaporub and coat inside his nostrils. That will keep him from noticing the mare next door. Gelding a stallion at 14 makes old habbits hard to break. The hormones will continue for some time, but should have ceased after this length of time. He sounds like a handful. If the boarding facility is having problems, you may need to relocate hime or sell him, unfortunately. I wish I had some better advice. the vick's is only a temporary solution at best.
