When you get an STD test run on a mare do the vets check for all the STD's or just some of the major ones and what is the typical cost to run the test?

The best way to check for an STD in a horse, is to have a bacterial culture done of the mare and the cost is going to vary from vet service to vet service.  And it will also depend on which STD's you want to have the mare tested for.

There are several main STDs. The most common to be tested for and the most contagious is Equine Viral Arteritis.

The second most common to test for is equine herpesvirus.

Equines can contract and carry STD's but they are rare.
