Quarter Horse Mare

Question
Hi,
I have a 4 year old solid black Arabian/Paint cross mare who I am going to breed this up coming spring. I have heard that if you can, it is good to breed at least two mares so that the foals can play together and give the mares a break. Is this true? I have a quarter horse mare too who I was thinking about breeding but she might be too young. She is only about 2 1/2. I have been told by some people that this is okay and by others that it is not. What do you think? Also, I was planing on breeding the Arabian cross mare to a Friesian stud, so would the foal be able to be registered as a Friesian cross or an Arabian cross?
Thanks,
Courtney

Answer
Hi- If you breed to a reg arabian stallion -the foal can be reg as 1/2 arabian.2 1/2 is old enough to breed a mare if she is filled out and out of that "lanky" stage of growth.Breeding her will widen her out. Im not sure about reg. fresians as half- Im not familiar with their registry. It is fine to breed one mare at a time, but the foals would have fun playing with each other. We have had mares try to take care of each others foals in the past though- good luck with your mares!!!
