Question
i have a  five year old quarter horse. i just got her for christmas this past year. as far as i know she's never been bred. my neighbors have several horses and a couple of them are studs. my feild that my horse is in and the neighbors feild are separated by one fence. it's not very high, there's no electric on it and it's a wire fence. can my horse and the neighbor's horse breed, even though there is a fence between them? she's looking a little big on the sides of her belly and i dont think that the person i got her from had her bred before he sold her to us.

Answer
Hi Amber,

It is highly possible that a stud could have bred your mare through a fence. There are many foals out in the world, that came about from a stallion impregnating a mare through a fence. If you suspect that she may be pregnant, then see about having the Vet palpate her.
