Mare pregnancy test

Question
QUESTION: I recently came upon a site called foalproof.com.  They advertise a pregnancy test for mares that is much like human tests.  They are called "Wee Foal".  Have you heard of it, and does it work, or is it just another scam?

ANSWER: I have heard of these tests, and they do work. The one that I have heard of the most is available in Jeffers magazine 1-800-Jeffers. they can tell if a mare is pregnant up to 140 days after conception, and it is with urine. After 140 days a vet check will tell you if your mare is bred. This is usually a blood test or an exam. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can be any more of service. Always a pleasure,Heather

QUESTION: Thank you very much for your answer.  I really aprecaite you help.  Just one more question though.  My mare is six months.  At this point, are we beyond the help of a test, or will it still read true?  Thank you again for your time.  Meredith

Answer
You are probably beyond the use of a test. The hormone in the mare's urine is not going to register on the pregnancy test. If she is not coming into heat anymore, she is probably pregnant. The only way to be sure is to let the vet listen to hear the movements or an exam to feel for the foal.  Heather
