Question
Lisa, first of all thank you for taking the time to answer this question for me, we have a QH mare who was not supposed to be in foal, but before we got her she was running with a stud, she is showing all the signs of being in foal but when she see's our stud she acts like shes horsing. Is it possible she is in foal? She is getting really big and she should be due mid April if she is in foal. The people didn't know if the stud got her or not and if you feel her belly it feels like there is movement there. But in all my years with horses I have never seen a pregnant mare act like she is horsing.

Answer
Hi Laurie,
It is very possible that your mare could be pregnant. Off the top of my head I can think of 4 mares that I have known that kept breeding after getting in foal. With one mare, we were not sure who the father was going to be as she bred to 3 different stallions. I would get her palpated and feed her as though she is pregnant.
