Question
I Had a question about breeding miniature horses, Me and my friend are starting a small buisness of breeding mini horses, We have top of line healthy mares and stallions and plan to do very selective careful breeding. We wanted to know if there was still a risk of breeding them? Is it dangerous to? What are the risks? And is it a fairly profitable buisness? thanks so much.

Answer
Hi. Congratulations on the new venture. I am an Arabian breeder and have never dealt with minis. I have a friend in Ky. that has a fine herd. His first foal was stillborn. His were top lines also. The smaller animals seem to have a lot of problems. But I have had similar problems with Arabs as well. I think the key is to have a good equine vet on hand in the event you need to ultrasound, inseminate, etc. As you learn more, your path will become clearer. Best of luck. Keep in touch and let me know how it goes. Brian McElroy, Evergreen Acres Arabians, Tampa, Fl. E-mail: arabhorsesrbest@aol.com.
