Breeding small mares to large stallions

Question
Hi,
If a small mare, for instance a large mini(32-38", is bred to a large pony stallion(from 12.2 hands to 14 hands) will she be able to have the foal or can the foal become to big for her to foal on her own? I have heard some people say that a mares genes will autimatically make the foal small enough for her to be able to deliver it, is this true?

Answer
Hi Stefanie,
While the mare basically determines the size of the foal, there are incidents of the foal being too large to be born. If you are looking to breed her then I would look at either a smaller stallion or one or throws off smaller foals.
