QuestionI have a 13 y/o thoroughbred mare that i want to breed. At her age is it still ok to breed her? I'm kind of new to the whole breeding thing!
Thanks, Haleigh
AnswerDear Haleigh
Thirteen is a fine age to breed your mare. She is fully mature, but not geriatric. Have your vet do a pre-breeding check for reproductive health. A lot of reputable stallion owners will require this to establish your mare has no infections and is a breedable condition. Even if the stallion owner doesn't require it, it's still a good idea.
Good luck.
