Gelding a colt

Question
I had my 1yr arab colt gelded a couple of weeks ago.  My vet leaves the incisions open in the scrotum for draining.
Soon after the cutting I noticed some tissue hanging from the scrotum.  It is the size of your little finger and slightly rigid.  I think maybe it is the cord that attacted to the testicals.  I looked to my vet books but no joy.  Called my vet and he says not to worry.  The tissue is not drying up and it seems to irratate the colt a bit when he walks/runs.  Have you ever seen this before?

Answer
I have seen it. It is not too uncommon. The colt is actually bothered by the healing. The vet is right to leave it open. The only thing you left out is that you should walk him and exercise him for at least 2 hours each day and keep him inside to prevent infection. I hope this helps. If you notice any bleeding or infection, call the vet...good luck with the little guy.
