mini stud breeding

My mini horse stud is turning 4 and he still doesn't know he is a stud and he wouldn't breed my 1 mare so we had to sell her do you know a way to help him realize he is a stud or why he doesn't know

Dear Horsey

If he is 4 and doesn't behave like a stallion, there may be a hormonal issue.  I would call your vet and have him checked.  You can't TEACH a stallion to have a sex drive any more than you can TEACH an adult man. If he doesn't feel the drive, something is amiss. Call your veterinarian and explain the problem to the vet. It may be a matter of testosterone levels.  It may be that this stallion will make a much better gelding than a stallion.
