shetland ponies pregnancy

Question
Hi, I bought 2 Shetland ponies in march this year, one a mother, and the other her foul, and was told the mother was pregnant, and she obviously looked it. I have noticed she doesn't look as fat as she used to, and was wondering if the baby is still ok? she is healthy and feeds on a large paddock with her previous foul. I was also wondering when I would have to start feeding her more feed (i.e. grain and extra feed). and does it only take 11 months for her pregnancy?

Thank you,
Bella

Answer
It depends on how far into pregnancy she is. If I were you I would get your mare out of the pasture if she is pregnant because there might be phescue in your grass and it will make the baby sick and come out early and the mom wont have any milk. Thats what happened to my mare because we didnt know that their was phescue in our grass. Yes you should feed her more. Maybe add an extra flake of hay an extra half of scoop of grain. I'm not really sure on how much to give her since she is a pony and ponies founder easy. And yes horses are only pregnant for 11 months unless their babies come early or late.
I hope this helps.
