i brought a Shetland/pony about 6months ago now one being a stallion i was told when i got them that she was in foal.the stal is her son he at the time was still drinking from her so i have now separated them. shes big but doesn't seem to be getting any bigger so how do i know for sure.                                  Samantha

Hi Samantha,

If your mare is around 7 months into pregnancy, you should be able to feel the foal moving at this time.

The best time to check for foal movement is when the mare is eating or drinking.  Put your hand right under her belly and wait to see if you can feel anything kicking or pushing against your hand.

The only other way I can suggest for you to find out for sure if she is pregnant, is to have a vet palpate her.

Some mares do not show pregnancy by getting a real large belly, especially if they have not had very many foals.
