Question
QUESTION: Hi Tracie - sorry to keep asking questions; I'm just still worried about my gecko.

So he finally licked up some baby food off a cotton swab yesterday, but resisted it again today.  I'll continue offering it daily.

After his last shed a couple days ago, he was left with some pieces on his feet and around his eyes/nose.  When I looked again this morning, it seemed that both his eyes were sealed shut.  I took a warm cotton swab to them and he managed to get one eye open, but the other is still closed.  I also attempted to get him a quick soak in warm water, but runs out of the bowl as soon as he touches it.  I just added a moist hiding spot to his cage and put him inside, hoping it'll help him get rid of the other skin.

Do you have any ideas on why he hasn't been eating?  And also, how can I help him open his eye/get rid of the skin around his toes?

thank you,
Gavin

ANSWER: Hello Gavin,

I really think that you need to get a fecal done on him.  He could have parasites or worms.  Do you have a nearby vet you could get a fecal done?
It sounds like he could have a respiratory problem possibly if there are problems with the eyes.
Good you have added a moist hiding spot for him.  It needs to kept moist all of the time.  Did you put it on top of the undertank heater?
Soaking him in warm water should help alot, so continue to do that until all of the skin is off, if he can tolerate it!  LOL
What are the temps on the hot spot again?
If he is not eating, he could have parasites, worms, or he is not warm enough.
Keep trying with the babyfood.  You may have to literally get his mouth open using the swab, & get a plastic syringe & syringe it into his mouth that way to get some food into him.

QUESTION: I attempted to do a soaking, and he wouldn't have any of it lol.  He jumped out as soon as he touched the water.  Unfortunately there aren't any reptile vets in the boston area I can find, and I'm here going to school full time with no car either.

The temps in the hot spot are about 90 degrees when the light's on during the day, and about 80 when the light's off at night.

You say the eye seal problem could be respiratory?  I would have guessed it had something to do with him shedding and leaving skin in that area of his face.

He hasn't left his moist spot yet, since I put it in.  Not sure if that's good or bad.  It is on top of the undertank heater, though.

I'll try with the baby food again tomorrow, though.  Is there any way I can get the skin off his feet and face?  I really just want to make him as comfortable as possible.

thanks again for all your help!

Answer
Hello Gavin,

Well, it could be respiratory related but since your temps are fine, it probably is not.  Sometimes when they get respiratory infections, the sinus' get infected which can affect the eyes.
I am hoping that the humidity is going to fix this.  They have alot of trouble with shedding if they don't have a humid hide to help them out.  That is fine if he has not left his humid cave.  He probably needs it.
I can see him literally running on the water trying to get out of the water!  LOL
Well, if he will tolerate it, you can get some tweezers & gently attempt to get the skin off.  Maybe you could try misting him?  He might handle that alot better than a bath.  :-))

Let me know how it goes.
