Question
QUESTION: hi another question. for my birthday in 2011 i might be getting another guinea pig if i do i,ll adopt but any way i wanted to get a female but obviously babies are a problem so i heard about getting males nuetered but it sounds a bit risky so i was wondering if i get a female in a sepereate cage and wach them closely in a play pen so they don,t do you know what is that OK?

ANSWER: Hello Gaia!
Well first, thank you for looking into adopting a shelter pet! The world thanks you for helping a piggy find a wonderful new home, and helping put a stop to guinea pig mills by buying 'second hand' ;).

I have a link for you to a great site that discusses the risks of nuetering, be warned though as I know it goes over all the precautions and what will happen but it differs from vet to vet and the site tends to sound a little scary.

I think that after a succesful nuetering your giunea pigs will be fine together. I hope you dont have to seperate them perminantly though as it would be un-fair to the piggy. Giunea pigs are herd animals.
Do not cross a male off your list completly though, I was sure that I was going to get 2 boys and ended up with two girls and I have never looked back on it since. Go with what your heart tells you, as you have much time to think it over.

QUESTION: thank you very helpful, also you mean i can have a male with my guinea pig, and is their an age were reproducing in guinea pigs stops?

Answer
Hello!
Yes I meant that a male would be easier but a female would still be an option as long as your current boy has a snip snip on his downstairs first.
And no, guinea pigs naturally will attempt reproduction until the day they dye, especially the men.
