Baytril for guinea pigs

Question
Hello Andy and thank you for volunteering your time and energy in order to help people help their pets.  I have a 5 month old female guinea that I adopted about 10 days ago and shortly after I got her home I noticed a bump on her side with a small raised bump on it. I took her to the vet today to have it looked at and the Dr. gave her 2 shots of antibiotics and Baytril to administer at home.  I think the medicine may have been in the heat too long because it almost looks curdled (or like it has powder in it?)  Is that normal?  I didn't realize it needed to be refridgerated.  I also wanted to know at what age is a guinea pig considered an adult?  Any tips on getting the medicine into her mouth?  Thanks Andy.

Jen

Answer
Hi Jennifer

Thank you for your kind comments and encouragement, it means a lot.

I have to admit, I don't know a lot about baytrill so I cant really comment but I should say there should be an expiry date on the bottle as a guide.

You can use a plastic syringe to get the liquid into her mouth but be gentle.

I am a little concerned the vet gave your pet injections. This normally distresses guinea pigs, so please keep an eye on her over the coming days to ensure she behaves normally.

In terms of adulthood, thats a good one. Baby piggies are weird in that they are born nearly fully developed. They can eat solid food almost as soon as they leave the womb.

Therefore I don't really think there is an age where you class a pig as no longer being a child as such.
