eye problem vet cannot diagnose!

Question
I have been breeding g.pigs for several years. Every now and then I have a litter that have problems with their eyes.
They start out perfectly ok, then after a few hours one eye may close. I bathe, use cream from the vets, and anti-biotic but after the allotted days the problem re-emerges. After a few days both eyes have closed, and what seems to have been a healthy baby stops feeding and dies. I open the eyes every few hours, have tried drip feeding them all to no avail.
Can you shed any light on this?
The hutches are regularly disinfected.

The other thing I would like to ask is this: I sometimes have a still born pig that is very big - 3 times 'normal' size, which hasn't been cleaned. Can you advise me on this?

Thanks
Jenny

Answer
Hi Jenny

As this is something that has happened before I tend to think its down to genetics. Breeding isnt a big area of expertise for me but I do know that some breeds dont work well together when breeding. Could this be it or do you not mix-breed?

I really am not sure about the second question. As I say, I have never bred pigs myself. If you come back to me about the first question though I will try to do some research for you.
