QuestionWe have a pregnant pig who has never had babies and is 2 years old. We are worried as we have read that if they do not have babies by 8 months old, then the pig has a 70% chance of dieing during birth. Should we spay her, rather than risk letting her go to term?
AnswerI wouldn't do a preventive spay at this point. It is more risky. Do you know if she had has a litter before? If so, the risk decreases. You should have a good vet lined up in case of complications.
