fatty eye?

Question
I am planning to buy a 3 month old guinea pig. He is super cute, but I think he has fatty eye. Can you tell me what this is, what might be able to be done with it, an if it will get bigger. I am also planning to get hime neutered. How much does this usually cost, and it it terribly dangerous? Thanks!"

Well, let's start with neutering.  No, its not dangerous at all.  With males, it's a relatively simple procedure (this is according to my vet).  As for cost, it could vary, depending on your vet.  You would be wise to ask him (or her) for pricing information.

About the fatty eye -- it is a relatively harmless condition, and it should not get worse.  If it does, then it may actually be a reaction to some sort of eye injury, and you should take the animal to the vet.  If it is fatty eye, here is the treatment -- nothing.  It does not harm or bother the guinea pig in any way, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.  It's supposed to be a genetic condition, however, so I wouldn't breed an animal with it, but since you're not planning on breeding this animal, I wouldn't worry too much about the condition.

Hope this is helpful.  If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me.  Good luck!
