Christmas Trees

Question
I have about a gazillion pets and I was wondering if pine trees are poisonous to any common household pets, like cats, dogs, birds, guineapigs, and yeah...

Answer
I'm assuming you're asking about indoor pets, is that right? As far as I know the only thing you have to worry about with indoor pets and Xmas tress is the lights, the tinsel and the decorations.  These are just too tempting to some cats and you many find ornaments all over the place.

We had a cat that used to climb up inside our tree every year. It was a 9 foot artificial and he always liked to get a t least 7 ft off the ground before he stuck his face out at us. He also batted and bopped the ornaments around as a favorite pastime.

As far as poisonous I don't believe they are. Deer and moose will eat pine needles, but the have multiple stomach areas to digest these things. There shouldn't be any danger to your guinea pigs just smelling the scent of the tree, but I wouldn't feed any of the branches to the pigs. The oils in pine make it unfriendly to guinea pigs. Same with birds.

The last part of your question was cut off so I'm not sure what else you wanted to ask about, but if you still have questions please just write me again.

Have a Merry Christmas.
