My gp wont eat his dry food

Question
Hello,

I got a little guinea pig 2 weeks ago and he has a big appetite.  However, he has gotten spoiled with yummy veggies and now refuses to eat his dry food.  He runs around the cage, "wheet-wheeting" at me to give him more veggies. He then starts going "crazy", running around, jumping, knocking things over - even turned his hiding place up on end.  I don't know what to do - he needs to eat his dry food, but I don't want him to starve.  Can you help?  Also, I could use some feeding tips - how much should I feed of everything, etc?  And one other question - Chompsky thinks my fingers are treats and nibbles at them - how do I get him to stop?  Thanks so much!!!!

Answer
Here is what I would do in this situation.  I would go to the store and buy the baby food version of whatever veggie he is in love with.  I would moisten some of his pellets on top with this veggie.  He should like it. I would not give him any more of his fresh veggies as long as he's eating some of the pellets.  Honestly, I wouldn't give him any of his veggies period, and gradually add less and less of the baby food to "wean" him off of it.  As fas as how much/when, he needs as much pellets as he can eat, just keep is bowl full.  For veggies, a leaf or 2 of spinach/kale and several baby carrots are more than enough veggies per day for the little guy.  At least cut in half whatever you are giving now.  Guinea pigs can live healthy lives on pellets alone, the veggies just supplement.  As far as biting your fingers, if you just gave him veggies he smells that on your hand, and wants more.  Make sure you wash your hands after feeding him or handling his food.  One other thing u can try is putting some of that bittering stuff they sell for dogs to stop chewing on furniture on your hands. But I bet it tastes bad, so wash afterwards!
Hope this helps!
