mites and ring worm

Question
Hello,
I work at a pet store and we have several sick guinea pigs.  They all have mites and they were given the injections by the vet, but the associates have also been giving the pigs dermazole baths.  I know that the baths are for ring worm because the vet recommended that before, but does the bath only help for ring worm, or mites as well?

Answer
The baths will not help the mites themselves, but what the vet most likely wanted the dermazole to do would be help heal the skin. I have used human oatmeal bath (Aveno), before with guinea pigs with mites, it helps cool and relax the skin, it can also help cure any dry-ness, dermazole does the same thing, it is just more expensive. As long as the pigs were all given shots of Ivermectin, that will rid the mites, the baths are just to help the skin heal faster. Let me know if you have any more questions.
