Question
gorgus the pregnet sow is producing VERY little milk what week is this and should i be worried?
handsom the boar should he be kept w/ the sow?
is it safe for the pigglets to be in beading or on news paper?
please reply asap


because you are helping me i will send you a pic and you can name one as your adopted pig in hartford ny i will send you a pic when ever you want to see it :)

The boar should be removed about 2 weeks before the young are due. Although he will not even think about harming the offspring, it is possible they may be hurt when he attempts to mate the sow a few hours after birth. The sow is also not in any condition to be mated again.


You shouldn't be worried at all about the milk. Is she still pregnant? If she is still pregnant then it is a good thing that she is producing milk at any point at all. Once the babies are born. Guinea pigs are born with enough reserves to last 24 hours without malnourishment, so don't be alarmed if they do not suckle during this time. If they are not suckling after this, check to see if the sow is producing milk. If not, milk must be provided either by surrogate mother or by hand-rearing.

It is perfectly safe to be on bedding for guinea pigs. That is what I use for the breeding of mine.
