Question
HI,my female guinea pig just born 3 babies..one of them is dead.. and the other two survived..now they re only a week old..i just noticed that one of the babies' head is slightly tilted to the right..she will run in a circle and it seems like she's walking dizzily and lose her balance..but she still have good appetite, she started drinking and eating solid food like pellets cucumber and carrots and still drinks her mother's milk..shes also still very active, she likes to run around the cage with her brother..i have read your answers about tilted head and ear infection..but i think its for older guinea pig like months old guinea pig..mine is only 1 week old..and im afraid the medication will make her condition worsen..please help me save the baby..hes so cute and loving thank uu so muchhh

Answer
I am afraid the diagnoses is 'Head tilt' (wry neck, torticollis). This is usually due to internal ear infection, sometimes secondary to a respiratory infection. The cavy usually tilts her head to one side and has a loss of balance, often falling when trying to walk. Strep bacteria are a common cause. Treatment is with antibiotics, so when you take you guinea pig to the vet, express your concern about her age. She will be A-okay if she treated soon.

Thanks for asking!
