Guinea pig-scratching

I have 2 guinea pigs, they both scratch but one does more than the other and does it so much he now has sores on his body.  We have put bag balm on him, he stops for a few days then digs again.  When we take him out of cage he doesn't do it as much.  What could we try?

You should really consult your vet. The most likely problem is mites which needs injections treatment with ivermectin. The problem could also be fungal or parasitical, all needing treatment.

You could try using an antibacterial small animal shampoo bath first but I doubt that will solve the problem if mites is the issues.
