Skinny GP after giving birth

Question
QUESTION: Previously, I've told you that my guinea pig gave birth to 3 healthy pups and they are exactly 2 weeks old now. I've confirmed their sexes and will be bringing them to the vet next Saturday to 100% confirm their gender. I've decided to keep all 3, which means 5 guinea pigs at home. Don't worry, I don't be that careless to breed them again because the 3 pups was really unexpected. But since they're born, we've decided to keep all 3 because finding a good home is hard.

It's been 2 weeks after giving birth and she's still very skinny. After birth for the first few days, I understand because the babies are out of the womb, but it's been 2 weeks. She has been eating, drinking and sleeping well. We give her and the babies enough food but the babies seem be drinking every other second. Will she feel stressed or something? Is there a need for me to bring her down to the vet with the babies also?

On another note, can the male babies leave their mom even before they're 3 weeks old, or that they have to stay till they're exactly 3 weeks? Because currently my male gp is living alone and I'm afraid he gets upset. He whines whenever he sees his partner. But unfortunately they can no longer live together.

Please help me. I'm really worried about my mommy guinea pig. ): Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi

Of course, if you are worried, the vet can check the mother over when you take the babies but if she is eating ok I doubt there is a problem.

If the baby boys are now eating solid food they could go with the dad for company but be aware that fighting could occur in adolescence if there are more than 2 males together.

QUESTION: I notice that she stopped eating food. I can feel her bones now and it's really worrying me. I'll be booking an appointment for her tomorrow morning as it's already 11pm in Singapore. If, the appointment date I get is a few days away, is there anything I can do, to make sure that's she's still alive before visiting the vet? I don't want anything to happen to her. I tried putting her with the male (don't worry, I supervised and make sure the male does nothing to make her pregnant again) but she's still not eating. I'm really lost. I gave her her favourite food, but it didn't help a little. ):

Answer
Hi

I'm sorry to hear that.

Usually I dont suggest syringe feeding until a vet has examined a pig but this sounds like a case of it being neccesary. You can puree her favourite food and pelet and syringe it into her mouth (from the side) but just a little at a time.

Good luck
