Question
For 2 and a half years i owned a rabbit and a guniea pig. The rabbit was a baby but we had to purchase an older larger guniea pig. Recently my rabbit died of what we believe to be a respiratory infection that may have progressed to pneumonia. My guinea pig is now lonely and I have some queries still. My questions are: can my guinea pig possibly of caught my rabbits infection? And can he suffer from depretion? Also my final query is do you believe that it would be suitable to introduce two new baby guinea pigs so soon ? Please help me as im very upset of my loss and need advice. Thank-you

Answer
The guinea pig can catch Upper Respiratory Infections, which is what the rabbit most likely died from. The best thing to do would be increase the guinea pig's vitamins, by both vitamins in the water and plenty of fruits and veggies, as long as the guinea pig does not have a low immune system it should be fine, but do watch out for warning signs such as sitting in the corner fluffed up and any drainage. I would wait at least a week to introduce any other pigs, just to make sure that your current one is healthy. It could also be depressed, but that should stop with time, just hold the pig more until you are sure that it is healthy enough to add another friend. My website has some information on URI's,  http://woopets.bravehost.com  , it is under the Guinea Pig Information page. Let me know if you have any more questions.
