syrian hamster behavioural change

Question
my hamster is a syrian male aged one and a half yrs. he's lost one lower tooth n developed cavities in the other three teeth one of which (the one opposing his missing tooth ) has grown long n curled upwards . due to this i started giving him a diet of grounded nuts compressed into tiny balls which he accepted happily for about 3 months. but since the last one week he has stopped eating these and has grown considerably thinner. just before this refusal i had gotten him a new water bottle as i noticed he was having trouble with the older one. ever since the new bottle's come he's been drinking upto 40 ml of water a day (nearly three times his usual amount)and has stopped eating anything but soft mashed pulses which i have to feed him fresh every 3 hrly as it dries up if left in his cage.the only vegetable he accepts is cucumber and the only fruit apple both thinly sliced.  i'm sorry for writing so much but i am really worried and i did not want to miss out anything incase it was important or relevant . i need to know what other food i can give him that would be soft enough for him to be able to eat and at the same time can be left in his food bowl and also would deeply appreciate it if you could tell me what has caused this behavioural change in him .

Answer

Other foods that you can feed him are bread, just don't leave it in there for more than three days. Other than that I can't really think of another food that you haven't listed. Just make sure that he gets plenty of the food your giving him. It sounds like he has a urinary tract infection. That causes the hamster to drink more water and eat less, because of pain. This is all I can tell you.

Thanks for writing
