Dear Kelly,
I'm not sure if my hamster is pregnant. I don't even know if it's a female or a male. A friend of mine had a hamster that was pregnant, and mine looks just like hers did. How do I tell if it's pregnant or even if it's a female?

Hi Savannah,

First, here's a link to a website which should help you in determining whether your hamster is male or female:

Now, if you've determine that your hamster is female, the signs of pregnancy include building a large nest and hoarding food in it and not coming into heat (which females usually do once every 4 days).  Around the 10th day, the belly will begin expanding, and the nipples may be more prominent.
