long active period

Question
My hamster normally sleeps during the day waking up a few times and is active for an hour at dusk and an hour at dawn. Last night my hamster was awake all night and still into the morning and would not stop running around as fast as he could. Normally he gets into my hand when I put it by him but today he just ran away from it. How long do their active periods normally last.

It varies between hamsters, but technically the whole night is designated for their "active period". Since they sleep through the day, they have the ability to be up and play all night. I know there are nights when mine does just this, much to my dismay. There's nothing really wrong here, your hamster is just using the time it's awake to it's full potential.
