Gerbil, Help!

Hello there, lately my gerbil has lost a lot of weight.  For a while now I've been feeding him myself and that's about the only time I ever see him eating.  This morning I went to check on him and found him shaking in a corner.  I took him out, changed his food and tried feeding him myself but now he would not eat at all.  At the moment, he is shaking and it seems as though he is having some trouble moving around.  I've read that the average lifespan of pet gerbils is about 2-4 years---I've had this guy for about 3 years now.  Please let me know anything at all that you can tell me.  Thank you.

it sounds like he's at the end of his life right now. :(
When a gerbil gets older they will lose a lot of weight and slowly stop eating. The only thing you could really do is to take your gerbil to a small animals vet but I don't know if there is anything that can truly be done. It doesn't sound like he's sick, it sounds like he's just old. You are doing everything that you possibly can for him and I don't know if there's much more you can do.
