watering babies

i have 12 new Syrian babies and would like to know when to try to give them water and how to go about it.

Hi Barbara,

Your baby hamsters will gradually begin trying to drink out of the water bottle.  The only thing you should do (besides keeping the water fresh by changing it every day) is lower the bottle very close to the ground so that the baby hamsters can comfortably reach it.

Also, they will gradually begin experimenting with hamster food, so scatter some regular hamster mix around the cage.

Remember, don't touch the babies until they are 14 days old.  If you touch them before they are 14 days old, the mother hamster may stop feeding them.
