is my albino gerbil a boy or a girl?!

My albino gerbil Mario has a big butt. the petstore person sied Mario is a he, butInot so sure.can you help?

    If Mario is 7 weeks old or older, watch him/her inside of your cage.  If you see a bulge [the scrotom] just below of the tail if Mario a male, if you don't Mario's a female.  If Mario is younger then 7 weeks then pick him/her up and look under the tail, but grab the tail ONLY AT THE BASE, If you grab the end the skin will come off and the bones will stay.  On a male, the place where he urinates is about a centimeter away from the scrotom.  On the female the place where she urinates is closer to the anus.

    If this still didn't help go to www.gerbils.co.uk and move the cursor over the "Gerbil Help" tab, then when the menu comes down click on "Sexing Gerbils."  It shows a more detailed way to tell the gender of Mario.  It also shows pictures of male and a female gerbil's undersides at different ages.

    I don't really know whether you meant about Mario having a big butt.  If you meant that you think Mario is pregnant, look from about at him or her and he or she will look like a pear.  The only other way to tell is wait and see what happens.  The gerbil pregnancy lasts about 24 days [but my gerbil, Brandy had her pups on the 29th day] unless she has more pups she is caring for.  If she does she will delay the pups birth until the current ones are weaned.  More information can be found on the "Breeding" section of "Gerbil Help" on the National Gerbil Society website.    [www.gerbils.co.uk]  If you think its a problem, sorry I cant help you.  You would probably want to consult a vet, although: I never heard of a gerbil illness like that.
