Gerbil digging

Question
I got a gerbil yesterday and I accidentally tripped and hit the side of his cage.Now he is so scared of me he tries to dig through the bottom of his cage to escape me!Please tell me how to get him to trust me again.

Gerbils naturally try to dig in their cages so he isn't doing this because you hit his cage. If you want him to trust you try using sunflower seeds to encourage him to come to your hand. Pick them out of his food first and only give them to him when you want to hold or interact with him.
