sick

i got a 8 week old hamster 2 days ago. he has begun to smell though. he has developed diarria and one eye is slightly swollen. my parents have told me not to worry and that he just needs to settle in but i think he may be ill. plz help me!!! rachael

Dear Rachel,
My advice, don't get too worried. Wait it out for about a week,and then if you are still concerned, contact a vet. Honestly, hamsters usually take about three days to really settle in to a new home, so give him some time. If his symptoms worsen, or anything new pops up, e-mail me back, or call the vet. Diarrhea is very often associated with un-easiness.
