Question

Candy and Peanut
Hi Sheila...there seems to be a problem with the follow up page in that there is no right margin when typing. I could not see all of your answer either! I had another look at Peanut tonight and I'm leaning toward "boy". When do I need to take him away from mom. This could break my heart, but I do not want mom and son breeding. He'll be 4 weeks on Saturday. I've tried to attach a picture, to show his size compared to mom. Thanks again..

Answer
Hi

Thanks for the photo - they look really cute.

Usually 4 weeks is the time to separate, but a few more days probably won't matter judging by how small he is in relation to her - that will give you a bit longer to decide what sex peanut is.  Obviously the longer you keep them together the greater chance there might be of her getting pregnant, but from the picture he is probably too small to mate with her.  I think I would be tempted to hold off separating them for a few more days until you are absolutely sure what sex peanut is - but don't blame me if it all goes horribly wrong!!!

Assuming you do have to separate them, once they are on their own they will settle very quickly into their own routine and will have forgotten each other very quickly.  So don't worry about that.  It is just a nuisance that you can't get both of them out at the same time to handle otherwise they will fight - it is much easier when they are the same sex and can live together.

Good luck with this.

Regards
Sheila
