hello there kelly what it is is i have a hamster (teddy bear hamster)and she has a bad eye it is red and weeping with like a bloody watery runny liquid and im scared i do not know what to do i have got a piece of cotton wool and damped it with warm water and wiped it but it has not really helped so please can i  have advise asap please thankyou

Hi Sammyjo,

Your hamster may have an eye infection.  To help with the infection, mix half a cup of sterile water (boil water, then let it cool) with a teaspoon of boric acid powder (available from a pharmacy).  Use an eye dropper to "bathe" the eye with the mixture 2-3 times per day.  If your hamster doesn't improve within a couple of days, you should take your hamster to the vet.  Also, if your hamster is displaying other signs of illness, such as lethargy, loss of weight, or a runny/sniffling nose, then you should take your hamster to a vet.
