Question
hi, im gettin two dwarf russian hamsters in a couple of days. and i dont know if i should get two things of each. should i get two nesting boxes or one from the pet shop. please awnser. help

Answer
Hi May!  Thanks for the question!

All three species of the dwarf russian hamsters (Winter White, Campbell's and Roborovski's) are social and prefer to be kept in groups (same sex, please, unless you want lots and lots of babies).  So no, you don't have to buy two of everything.

It is always handy to have another cage, however, just in case they start to fight and need to be separated (some hamsters start out getting along fine and later, even some siblings just end up not getting along), or in case you accidently get a male/female pair from the store and have an unwanted litter, and need to separate the male from the female (and later, the male babies and the female babies).

Plus, it gives you a handy, secure place to put your two buddies while you are giving their usual cage a thorough cleaning!  :)

I hope this helps!  Have fun with your new pets, and feel free to ask me anything else that may come up!
