Hamster sleeping all the time

Question
Hey.

I brought a hamster like 2 weeks ago, all he does is stay in his bed. When I go to fetch him out of his bed he's awake and just sitting there.

What can I do? When he was seperated with his siblings he seemed to take it pretty hard, he didn't make his nest for three days, and seemed lost. Is this why?

If you could shed any light on this I'd be so grateful.

Thanks,

Katie.

Answer
Dear Katie,
thank you for your question.
Syrian hamsters are solitary and don't need friends. Dwarf hamsters do live together as breeding pairs in the wild, but in captivity they usually fight. So I don't think that he's lonely or something, he just needs to get used to his new home. Some hamsters sleep until very late in the night and there's not much you can do about this. You can feed him always at the same time and offer treats like mealworms or something at that time so that he learns that he will get something nice when he gets up early, but there's no guarantee that this will work. Just let him have some time to get used to everything, he might start getting up earlier in time.
I gope I was of some help to you
